Eligibility and benefits are two fundamental concepts that often arise in the world of insurance. Although they are sometimes used interchangeably, there are distinct differences between them that are important to understand. Verifying member eligibility is crucial to confirm a patient's insurance coverage and it ensures the provider is accurately reimbursed for services rendered. On the other hand, benefits refer to the specific services that are covered under an insurance plan including the amount and type of services that are reimbursable by the payer. It is important to understand the specific benefits of each patient's insurance plan to provide accurate information about their coverage and potential out-of-pocket costs.

Verification of benefits is an essential step to ensure that the provider has accurate information about the member's coverage. It goes a step further, detailing what treatments are covered and any associated costs, such as co-payments, deductibles, and other out-of-pocket expenses. Benefits verification also helps patients better understand the types of healthcare options available to them, their associated costs, and whether they qualify for certain services. Now that you understand what benefits are and why verifying them matters, let’s explore how to easily check your insurance benefits using the Be.Well by Slade360° app.

Recently, Alyssa visited a hospital for a follow-up appointment after a minor surgery. She assumed her insurance would cover the visit, like it did for the surgery. However, when the hospital submitted the claim, it was delayed because her policy had changed at the start of the month. She was unaware of the policy change. The hospital spent days going back and forth with the insurer to clarify her coverage because her benefits hadn’t been verified ahead of time. Left in the dark, Alyssa worries that she might have to pay out of pocket. A quick benefits check on the Be.Well by Slade360° app before her visit could have eased the confusion by showing what was covered, what wasn’t and what her co-pay would be.

A delayed insurance claim doesn't have to be the end of your story. It can be the beginning of a more informed, empowered insurance journey. Here’s a simple guide on how to check insurance benefits via Be.Well by Slade360° app:
